The point is, more and more people have found that they can wean a 500+ pound, black, polled calf..in 6 months... from a Corriente cow bred to an Angus bull. Or Brangus, or in the case of the ones in my original thread. an Ultrablack. And, they will bring the same as any other black steers at the sale barn.
Corriente is small, trim cattle, with sufficient bone and strength for easy action and endurance. Generally, a mature bull weighs less than 1,000 pounds, and a mature cow less than 800 pounds. The cattle are narrow with high withers and a short, peaked rump. They have a clean dewlap, deep girth, and high flank.This includes breeding the heifer to a known calving-ease bull of high quality genetics. We typically do not recommend breeding heifers to unproven Continental breed bulls or to Longhorn or Corriente bulls. Unproven Continental bulls can create the obvious problem of dystocia.
