As a slight recap if someone new to the issue is reading this, a lot of JL's are plagued with intermittent CarPlay back when plugged in via the USB in the Center Console.

I also purchased a wireless CarPlay adapter for my 21 JGC last May from Amazon. The brand is Drimfly (not Carlink). It is not flawless but works quite well. It would connect my phone within 30-45 seconds. Since you are getting some reaction on the steering wheel, then you probably have the right harness. I would start there and make sure your harness includes steering control.
